This is the ‘how to’ do-it-yourself video for replacing encoders with potentiometers on an Evolver synth from the Dave Smith Instruments website.  Apparently some of the original encoders turned out to be fidgety from the factory, and also some Evolver players just prefer the action of pots.

Here’s yet ANOTHER useful article by veteran music tech guru Craig Anderton.  It describes the next generation protocol in data transfer, improving upon the likes of firewire and USB.  To date the only audio device that I know of that has thunderbolt is the new Universal Audio Apollo interface, however I think we’ll be seeing much more of it in the near future.

We’re very pleased to announce the release of the latest Studio Wormone sound pack – Degenerate Synthesis.  Get it while it’s hot – fresh off the hard drive!

Degenerate Synthesis is a blatant abuse of the Techno art form. This package is a robust Construction Kit of bold bass lines, barely recognizable post-apocalyptic synths, sociopathic drums, violently cutting-edge one-shot hits, unhinged FX loops, and blunt force samples.
The warped minds at Studio Wormbone have pushed technology well into crisis mode for your pleasure with this release. It achieves a culmination of sick creativity and punishing brutality. There’s no turning back now, people.

Uncontrollable idiosyncratic analogs, serial compressor slamming, daisy chained multi-band distortions, modulated de-resolutions, glitching stacked on glitching – this is nothing short of the Inquisition for electronic instruments.

Torture them until they reveal their deepest confessions; their dirty secrets. There is beauty in ugliness and truth in trauma. Modern music never sounded so vividly disconcerting!

Product Contents:

• 30 Miss-calibrated Drum Loops
• 30 Blunt Bass Loops
• 30 Heinous FX Loops
• 100 Decrepit One-Shot Hits
• 30 Bedraggled Samples
• 30 Actively Decomposing Synth Loops

All loops are 130 BPM. There are also many ‘companion files’ within this product, meaning that two (or more) loops with a similar file name will already musically fit together for Construction Kit style layering.

For instance, “Mind Melting Drum Loop” in the drum folder would already be matched for key and rhythmic feel to playback cooperatively with the file “Mind Melting Synth Loop” in the synth folder. These are intended as song layer suggestions.

Extensive use of exotic hardware and software went into the development of these sounds to make your next project inventive, far-sighted, and mind-blisteringly innovative.

Files are provided in WAV 24-Bit/44.1 kHz resolution, and are, of course Royalty-Free. Where appropriate the tempo and key center are listed in the file name for easy integration into your favorite DAW.

Every sample has been professionally recorded, edited, sliced, and mastered with the utmost care and is usable with every major audio software program (Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Sonar, FL Studio, Sony Acid, Garageband, Ableton Live, Reason). All sounds are compatible cross-platform with either Mac or PC.

Studio Wormbone hasn’t jumped on board yet with the new fangled touchy-feely computers like the iPad.  But viddies like this one present a compelling desire.  Visually speaking, this interface looks absolutely stunning.  It appears to our eyes to be about 1000 years ahead of it’s time.

As stated in the last post it’s a great pleasure to be able to hear the end result music by people who are using sounds that originated here at Studio Wormbone.  We were contacted recently by one such producer who has new music up on Soundcloud, and thought it fitting to propagate it further throughout the Net of Inter.  So if you haven’t heard it already please open your ears to the fine work of Dra5t3k:

These songs include many sounds from the Cybernetic and Nuance sound packs.

Let me also take this opportunity to issue a blanket invitation to anyone who is using Studio Wormbone sounds in their music.  Feel free to email links to the songs to info(at)studiowormbone(dot)com and as time allows I’ll be happy to post them here!

We’re pleased to announce that the unenviable job of having to select a winner for the recent Studio Wormbone sound pack remix contest is complete!  Let it be said first though that it is a great pleasure and honor to hear so many competent artists structuring killer songs using Studio Wormbone sounds. Great work people, truly.  Your talents are inspiring.

So without further ado, the winner of the Degenerate Synthesis remix contest is . . . a tie!  Bot the artists Joseph Bautista and Ryakin Rip turned in mixes that nailed the requirements of the demo song format while also giving it a life of it’s own.  Congratulations gentlemen!  Both of these songs will be displayed as audio demos on the product page for the soon-to-be-released Degenerate Synthesis sound pack.

Here’s a sneak peek of the winning remixes:

Again it was an honor to hear all of the hard work that went into each and every entry.  Hopefully the free versions of these loops and samples will serve everyone well outside of this contest as well.

Stay tuned to this blog for more Studio Wormbone remix contests, and more – many more – future sound packs!
